Osmond General Hospital is a 20-bed critical-access hospital serving the residents of Northeast Nebraska. They offer many of the medical services one would expect to find in a larger hospital, including emergency services, imaging, laboratory services, therapy, and more.

Medication Distribution and Monitoring Before ServeRx System

Like most other hospitals, Osmond General needs to distribute medication to its patients in an organized, controlled way. This includes both controlled and non-controlled medications.

Because of the hospital’s small size, control and distribution of medications is managed by a pharmacy technician who works part-time. This means that the distribution has to be carefully tracked and recorded, whether or not the pharmacy technician is on duty.

Before obtaining a ServeRx medication management system, Osmond General was manually tracking medications that left the pharmacy. This included manual counts and cart fills, with records being kept on paper, making it difficult to go back into the record, should a question or a problem arise.

How the ServeRx System Changed the Monitoring of Medications

The ServeRx system provides a unique start-to-finish solution for medication management and administration. Each ServeRx hardware unit works together to build a cohesive, closed-loop medication management solution for healthcare facilities. Osmond General began using the ServeRx system to gain greater control over, and visibility into, their medication distribution.

Now, nurses at Osmond General have access to medications only through the ServeRx medication management system. When pulling a controlled substance, nurses need to do so in the presence of a witness who also must sign in to the system (enforced monitoring). They enter the count for the existing medication in the drawer and the amount being removed. The system tracks this history of access, which greatly reduces the time spent reconciling discrepancies.

ServeRx also provides a number of convenient reports, allowing authorized users to see an inventory of all medications and access records for them.

Overall, having this system in place has created a more secure and fair monitoring system, while also reducing time spent reconciling discrepancies and manually piecing together access history.

What Having a ServeRx System Means for Hospitals

Osmond General is just one example of a healthcare facility that has replaced its manual processes with a more modern, cohesive, closed-loop medication management solution. With ServeRx hardware and software, these facilities experience:

Peace of Mind.

ServeRx lets healthcare facilities rest easy, knowing that medications are being appropriately tracked and counted. The system supports compliance with the Five Rights of Medication Administration and includes other important safety features, such as biometric fingerprint user authentication.

Knowing that ServeRx will Scale.

As departments and facilities grow, keeping track of medication distribution manually becomes more and more problematic. A big advantage of the ServeRx medication management system is that it can scale with growth, managing access whether a facility has 20, 200, or 2,000 beds. ServeRx also interfaces with most Electronic Health Record systems, making its use seamless within the facility.

Help Along the Way.

The staff at Osmond General would be the first to tell you: “The customer support for ServeRx is very good, and things are always resolved very quickly.” 3AM Technologies, manufacturers of ServeRx, has a staff of highly trained, experienced, and qualified technicians ready to address the needs of any healthcare facility, no matter their size or location. They also aim to make ServeRx a competitive and cost- effective solution compared to other popular options on the market.
